Embodied Speculations
The body of the city,
The body of the home,
The body of the space embodied by us.
Studio Process :
1) Perform constraints
2) Communicate in contemporary ways
3) Propose a solution
Approach :
This design exercise will help establish a link between performative storytelling and architectural thinking. It will begin by establishing the situation - a particular social, cultural, political or/and economical disharmony. Communicate the problem through performance or other disciplines one finds comfort in.
Performance as a medium helps embody the constraint, and present its consequences in flesh. Once the constraint is established - we can start carving out ways of breaking the pattern and seek better ways of approaching the concern.
Social problems are usually embedded in our upbringing - to externalize them takes multidisciplinary thinking, unlearning, introspection and care. This work will help bring visibility to these social constraints and try to understand their strengths and weaknesses in the societal fabric today.
This process will give us a framework to demould monolithic social structures and research workable speculations that can contribute to our future built environment.
I want to learn about the possibilities this approach can provide. How it changes the way we interact with experiential contextual knowledge. I want to foster the urgency of the performance and facilitate the desire to seek solutions.
